Jean Chambers

These are two demos done by Jean Chambers: known for her Still Life paintings.
I know it looks like a big mess in the background but it really works when she
gets it finished. Her background method really reminds me alot of Richard Schmid:
done quickly with a fan brush and lots of medium or turp.

On location

Late summer - Bellmont AZ - Old Route 66
If anyone is an "Easy Rider" fan, this location was used for the film.
On the other side of the road, to the left are the railroad tracks, if
you live in Flagstaff you know how many trains go through. So between
the large dogs living here and the trains, which create quite a breeze, it was
challenging to paint here and you're supposed to keep your panel shaded.
Not always easy.
I did a field study but have not done a finished studio piece.
Later in the year this area was hit with a tornado. Yes, Arizona gets tornadoes.

Catching up #4

The class was with Carol Marine: one of the Daily Painters (Google them some day) She is quite young, early 30's, very talented and computer savvy. A few years ago she started doing a painting a day, 6"x6", and posting it on eBay. Then along with a group of like minded artists their own website and Blogs all interlinked. The rest is history. Her seminars are sold out with wait lists and she has a tremendous following on eBay to this day. Also gallery representation.
Below is one of her demos.

Catching up #3

For those who think I have only painted on canvas...WRONG. For about 25 years I painted, designed and authored in the Decorative Painting field. The book above was published by North Light, Cincinnati, OH. It may still be available on Amazon and I've seen it on eBay lately. I really should pick one up since I don't even have a copy left.

The photo below is one of the last seminar pieces I designed.
I also had an Artist Agent for a time: I was a small fish in a big pond.
For anyone considering going that route, there is a lot of great talent out there to compete with.

Catch up #2

The top photo is Kevin Macpherson doing a demo in his "to die for" studio.  This was my very first seminar and I probably shouldn't have been there, not that I was the worst painter there, but I was not ready for such an intense week. He's brilliant and one of the best.
Here he is with some fellow students. The lady to his left just happened to be one of my fellow Sedona Art Center classmates.
Check out his work:  www.kevinmacpherson

Catching up

I'll be attempting to catch up on the last two years with a few
photos of past classes; and since I am new to blogging without
a webmaster to call with questions it could be ugly for a while. Bear
with me.  It's been my plan, since taking a seminar with Carol Marine,
to do a blog of my own. You will hear more about Carol later.
After I get through the intro, and the past teachers and classes I'll move
on to current paintings. This would have been so much easier if I had
started last year!
The setup above was my first attempt at plein air in Taos, NM with
Kevin Macpherson. Location - Walt Gonske's very eclectic garden.
